In India the railways sector is one of the important economic generators; it is considered as the lifeline of the country. It has a long history association with the country’s every progress. It was first established in 1853 from Bombay to Thane. The entire sector is under the rail ministry. It is the best option chosen by people very often as it is wonderfully connected with many cities and villages as well. The Indian railway is the fourth largest railway network in the world next to United State of America, Russia and China. With 7500 stations available in the country it has been estimated that the Indian railway carries 30 million of passengers and 2.8 million tons of freight daily.

The Indian railways own over 240000 wagons for goods, 60,000 coaches and 9000 locomotives, which run over different types of rail gauges like multi gauge, meter gauge and narrow gauge.

With the increase of the Indian tourism the career scopes in railway sectors got multiplied. From the organizational chart it can be said that there are many branches and sub-branches of it that require thousands of competent workers to carry out various functions smoothly together. People willing to build their careers in this sector can find various jobs opportunities from security guard to engineers and TTs, followed by many clerks sitting at counters under skilful supervision of various managers to luggage carriers. In fact, the railways today is not only carrying passengers and freights but also the lives of thousands of people who are directly or indirectly involved with it for their daily survivals.
